| Ethical dilemma I have an old car - 10 years old. It's been a good runner for me and I serviced it every year. low mileage for it's age and I have had it since new. It had a MOT late last year and hasn't been driven since. DSS bought it and unfortunately on day 2 it broke down. A spring went (something that just happens) and Dh said to DSS he would pay for it. The garage that DSS took it to has said that it is dangerous to drive and a wreck and needs at least £600 worth of stuff done to it. Now I think that is a load of old boswellox - and that because DSS GF took it in they are spooking her to try and get cash from her. We have offered to take it to our garage and get it checked over because given it's history of being serviced and having a current MOT and not being used since getting that. We think the car is good and know our mechanic will confirm. DSS has just text to say - even if the car is fine his GF doesn't feel safe in it and they are going to sell it. I am DH is Should we: Let them sell it take it back and get rid ourselves We will get it checked out anyway but this has caused a rift because DH feels he's being accused of sharp practice. They offered to buy the car BTW and I have let them have easy payment terms. |

| ide say if they brought it off you its theirs to do with as they wish, however if you are sure this garage is ripping them off offer to take it to yours for them |

| find out why...if it's not been driven for a while the chassis could have rotted and let them sell it, i am sure the 50p they get for it will go a long way! |

| Take the damn thing back and let them sort their own car out.Wash your hands of the whole thing. |

| I agree with Buffy. I think the garage saw her coming and added a fair few things on that might well turn out to be utter crap. |

| If they've bought it off of you then it's theirs to sell, but it might be worth suggesting to them that they might get more money for it if you take it to your garage and see what really needs to be done. |
Damama 19:17 8/2
| I would give them their money back and take the car back to save any bad feeling it may cause. Then take it to your garage and see what they say. |

| If they've not paid for it in full, then give them what they have paid and take it back, take it to your garage to be fixed and flog it yourself. |

| Take it back
|

| Take it back & get the scrappage allowance Unless of course you transferred the registered keeper details to their name(s), as you have to have owned the car for at least 12 months to benefit from the scrappage scheme I'd take it back either way though - if she's not happy to drive it, what's the point in them having it? |

| Take it back from them. springs went on our car, it cost me 25 quid for new ones from a scrappy and are very easy to fit, and 600 quid is bollocks if it's just been thru a MOT!! |

| If your dss has paid for the car in full then it's up to him what he does with it. If he still owes you money for it then you still have a claim on the car and could take it back if you wanted. |

| Ahh the plot thickens..... We ask for the report from the garage that said it was a death trap that would cost £600 to repair. We see it. It says no such thing It says £100 plus vat for some new bushes that are wearing but not worn. We collect car, from her parents house, not the garage which seemed odd. I drive car, it drives fine No petrol or new air freshener in car, no key ring on key, radio not tuned to youthful station. It's almost as if she never intended to keep the car Lots of guilt phone calls from DSS Dh and I presume that her father has 'dissed' the car and told her to get rid OR that by saying there was a lot of work required we would lower the price Either way we smell a rat. The car is fine. It was all BS and we caught her out. Why not just say - 'I've changed my mind' rather than enter into Hans C Anderson territory
