Information for New Members

Hello and Welcome to all new members logging onto the forum! If you haven't already registered with us please take a minute to do so, even if you prefer to "lurk" rather than post messages! This will enable us to keep you updated on the latest BMC articles and features.

Three most useful tips for using the forum at Bad Mothers Club are as follows:

1. Introduce yourself so we can say hello! It's not compulsory but we are on the whole a friendly bunch and do like to welcome new members! (Click on 'Start a discussion' to create your thread )

2. The 'Latest Discussions' button is the best way of keeping up with the Forum movements. This may well be the fastest moving forum you are ever likely to post on!

3. For some help with any questions you might have about how to use our forum, you can refer to the FAQ's (Frequently Asked Questions) here: http://www.badmothersclub.co.uk/jsp/index.jsp?lnk=306 where you will find details of how to put smileys into your posts and handy stuff like italicising and bolding and a list of abbreviations we use, also troubleshooting tips

There are also some 'bmc-netiquette' guidelines that you might find useful.

We politely ask that swear words are kept off thread titles, but in the main text of a thread go for it!!

Our everyday chitchat thread is called 'Misto and Jo' - We also use this thread to ask questions/get advice etc if we dont feel the issue merits starting a new thread, or sometimes to ask advice and know that the question will be buried quickly )

Please remember before you post personal information that this is the net and you do so at your own risk - its also a public forum so anyone on the net can read it.

If you want to change your user name or are having problems onsite you can use the Offensive Posting button to contact the site moderators.

And finally a word from some of our members

Guru suggested: Sometimes when you read a thread, it's a good idea to do a quick check on the date that it was started, because sometimes, someone with a similar problem to the original poster may have posted asking for further advice along those lines. Quite often the original post is scanned quickly, and a reply is given that's not of help to the updater!! Also, occasionally a member has posted with a problem and they're then updating you on what has happened a few days/weeks/months down the line.

Ellespinkpj's suggested: newbie, this may look like an ordinary website, don't be fooled. BMC will laugh with you on the good days, it will lift you up on your bad days and carry you on your worst days. BMC will be your best friend, your big sister, your mum and your mates down the pub. BMC will widen your horizons, expand your knowledge, challange and excite you.

Cariad: A suggestion - before starting a new post - have a search and see if it's been done before, saves on duplication.

So that's it - we hope that you enjoy contributing to the BMC forum and if you have any queries please just ask!!

If your thread slides off the page with no replies, feel free to bump it. Just write the word 'bump' in the reply box and it will reappear on the front page.

Sometimes threads get missed as posters are involved with/thinking about other threads. Bumping your thread simply means that you will eventually get a response. Even the the most seemingly popular oldie can have their thread disappear within minutes. It's not personal, you just have to shout that wee bit louder. There is room for every thread.

To do italics ... (have shown the sequence going down the page, so you can see it ... but you type it consecutively)

<
i
>

then type what you want to

to end italics (i.e. if you want to carry on typing in normal font)

<
/
i
>

Same applies for BOLD - just replace the 'i' with a 'b'

WELCOME to BMC, you don't have to be mad to post here....(but it certainly helps - but only cos it makes the rest of us feel normal )

eta (usually found at the bottom of a post) means edited to add, but beware of editing (especially removing stuff) too much, it can confuse people (and make the people who posted after your comment look very silly indeed sometimes )

however I do find the edit function very useful for typos

oh and please don't mention c**king, i**ning or cl**ning unless you want to get told off

There are many argumentitive pedants here, just because somebody takes issue with your argument, does not mean that they don't like you. In many cases it is the opposite. Just make sure your replies aren't personally abusive, racist, sexist or any other -ist.

And enjoy the ride.

This is a fast moving forum, and sometimes if you say something or join in on a thread it will get missed.

DON'T TAKE IT PERSONALLY, as it is rarely deliberate! Just keep posting, we do want to talk to you, anyone and everyone can get accidentally overlooked around here no matter how long they have been here.

snuggles for sparkles in case she has EVER been accidentally overlooked (((((sparkles))))

Also please try to remember that no matter what you do, you CANNOT put faces, (smiley or otherwise) in titles!
